A little fox, foraging in the wilderness, nearly falls into a trap but is rescued by an elder white fox. The white fox is a spirit who has cultivated for hundreds of years and excels in the art of shape-shifting. The little fox begins to follow her and learns to transform into a beautiful woman in order to enter human society and form bonds with people.
The art of transformation requires insight into human desires—shifting into the form that each person longs for most. Each successful transformation brings the fox one step closer to becoming a nine-tailed fox.
“You must become a woman, find true love, and collect more heartfelt desires—only then will you grow another tail,” the elder sister warns. Yet the little fox repeatedly fails.
By chance, the little fox takes on the form of the deceased young master of the Qi family and steps into the world of politics—unexpectedly discovering a shortcut to mastering transformation…

✨Reviews✨
“A rare gem. Though told in the form of a fairy tale, it tackles profound themes like gender, morality, and fate. The author is truly gifted.” — Hesenbao, Science Fiction Writer
“One of the most striking short works I’ve seen recently. Yang Zhi’s creative approach offers fresh angles and inclusivity on topics we thought were already fully discussed.” — Nangong Hong, Animation Producer & Influencer
“At first glance, I thought it was just a gentle fairy tale—but it’s actually profound and brutal. Centered on the theme of ‘shape-shifting,’ the story links transformation with power, exploring the shifting dynamics of gender, the collective unconscious, and the rules of society.” — Nantian Xiao, Cartoonist & Influencer
